Custom-made foot orthosis
An orthopedic insole, sometimes referred to as a footbed support, is a custom-made foot orthosis designed and manufactured by an INAMI-approved healthcare professional (bandagist, orthotist or orthopedic shoe technologist). It is intended for:
Correct defective foot statics and/or any static and dynamic imbalance below 20mm
Wrap and compensate for foot anomalies
Relieve painful plantar pressure
Preventing and/or treating foot injuries in diabetic patients
Supporting the different arches of the foot
Improve comfort and reduce pain.
Orthopedic insoles are made following a medical prescription by a specialist (e.g. in orthopedics, rheumatology, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, etc.) and a careful examination of the feet and, more generally, the posture, as well as a study of the patient’s posture:
From foot supports to podobaroscopes
Footprints
the expression of needs related to the living environment and/or sports activities.
Made-to-measure orthopedic insoles are manufactured by shaping or thermoforming, to suit the patient’s comfort and footwear. In the case of insoles for diabetic patients, they must be combined with a suitable shoe (orthopedic or semi-orthopedic). Materials used include leather, cork, polyethylene foam, EVA (high-density copolymer), polyurethane, etc.

A. Sports insoles
Why sport-specific insoles?
Every sport involves a particular foot movement. Each discipline has its own characteristics, and insoles must be designed to suit the sport in question. Properly adapted footwear can, if not improve performance, at least reduce fatigue and the risk of injury.
B. Orthopedic insoles for diabetics
Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by abnormal insulin secretion. Diabetes can lead to serious complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, atherosclerosis, foot lesions (ulcers, infections, Charcot osteo-arthropathy) and even amputations. Our orthopedic technicians have developed specific orthopedic insoles for diabetic feet. What kind of insoles are there for diabetics?
There are two types of insoles for diabetics: the first is the so-called preventive insole, designed to act as the first barrier to possible ulcers, to be combined with semi-rigid shoes preferably designed for diabetic feet; the second is a curative insole in the event of ulcer or major osteological disorder, or even amputation, to be combined absolutely with prefabricated or custom-made orthopedic shoes. A 3rd mode of orthopedic intervention is total unloading using walking boots and specific orthopedic insoles for diabetics… These insoles have been developed and finalized in-house.
